what to expect

Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your feelings and behaviours in the present are shaped by what you experienced and perceived in the past. Our early experiences and relationships can shape the expectations and attitudes we have towards life and relationships in adulthood.

We may take past dynamics and patterns into our current experience and into new relationships. Unfortunately, sometimes these patterns are causing us harm. It’s in those occasions when talking about it can help what’s in your unconscious to slowly emerge, which would allow you to observe what is going on and to respond to it in a way that supports your wellbeing - breaking a negative pattern. This will happen at your own pace, and we can explore what the themes that your bring to therapy mean and make sense of them when the time comes.

  • I offer a safe and non-judgemental space intending to hold my clients’ experience and make them feel comfortable to share their story.

  • Self-awareness and understanding brings positive change. You can find a space in therapy to process your emotions and re-connect with your needs. It can be a slow subtle process at first, frustrating and challenging at times, as you are connecting with memories and talking about experiences that you find hard. Once you start connecting the dots and making sense of things, change will start to happen and eventually clients find that different areas in their life improve and become more fulfilling. They start making conscious decisions based on what is important to their wellbeing, instead of based on old patterns.

  • Finding a therapist can be a difficult part of the process. If you are looking for one, that’s already a sign that you are willing to give this a go and commit to the work.

It has probably taken you some time to get to this point, but now you feel ready. That’s a great start. Now, how can you know if a therapist is the right fit for you? It is one of those situations in which you have to try and see if there is a connection between you and your therapist.

It is believed that the therapeutic relationship that is built between therapist and client is one of the most important aspects of positive change and success in therapy.

That is why I have decided to offer a 15-minute initial consultation for free, where I would love to hear what is bringing you to therapy and you can ask as many questions as you wish. That way, we can both assess whether we are a good match, and decide if we can work together by the end of the video call.

Our sessions will be

  • Personalized

Our initial session will be dedicated to assessing your mental health and understanding your wishes and expectations from therapy. I will explain my background and approach, I will set the rules in therapy, and clarify any doubts.

  • Confidential

Therapy often involves sharing sensitive and personal information, so confidentiality is of utmost importance. To protect your right to privacy and offer a safe space, what you disclose in therapy will remain confidential. There are limited exceptions to this rule that we will discuss in our initial appointment.

  • Integrative

When needed, I’ll be guiding you towards helpful practices such as mindfulness training, relaxation techniques, and tools to challenge anxiety or depressive symptoms. I’ll work with you to help identify and manage your triggers.
